David Stephens hails from Michigan, and powers his big 21' pontoon boat with a 1962 Homelite 55.
We worked with Dave to get his early model with the George Jetson hood back up and running, and he loves her!
We provided a late style cam and shims so Dave could convert to the later distributor drive system, and several other parts. Dave did a great job of resurrecting this vintage 4 stroke.
Dave is over at www.fiberglassics.com along with most other Homelite 55 and Bearcat 55 enthusiasts.
Dave pushes this big pontoon using a 4 blade 8" pitch propeller we supplied, and also runs a 9" 3 blade as backup. He reports towing a friends boat with the pontoon running the 4 blade and enjoyed the excellent powerband at low speeds.
Shot from the boat looking at the trusty Homelite 55:
Shot of Dave doin' a flyby! Notice NO SMOKE, especially nice at low speeds where you normally don't outrun the cloud of two stroke smoke on a normal outboard....Dave and family love that....!
Here's Dave's 62 55 in action and some shots of the motor too. Remember, at the time the Homelite 55 was developed, the space race was on. And it was American technology that led the world in space and outboards, this was the world's only mass produced 4 stroke outboard at the time..........
